City of Troy seeks RFQ for redevelopment at Monument Sq. project

January 10, 2011 - Brokerage
The city is seeking qualifications from development firms to build a mixed-use development on a 2.1-acre waterfront parcel owned by the city. Redevelopment of this site into a mixed-use development will help contribute to the ongoing revitalization efforts of the downtown. The site abuts Monument Sq. and it is envisioned that the new development will contribute vibrancy to this area by adding to its work-hours and full-time population while remaining sensitive and compatible with the architectural and environmental surroundings. Respondents to the RFQ should have experience in complex waterfront development including the development of high quality mixed-use projects with the public sector as partners. They should also have experience working with communities to achieve their vision. A comprehensive community engagement process was undertaken during the winter and spring of 2009-2010 in order to solicit feedback from the community. The results of this process are encapsulated in development guidelines included within their RFQ, reference tools that should be used to guide development of the site. You can find their RFQ at: http://www.troyny.gov/projects/monumentsquareredevelopment/monumentsquareRFQ.pdf. The community process also identified the following two goals for the project site's redevelopment: * Visually and physically enhance public access to the Hudson Riverfront, linking the riverfront and downtown * Build a new structure on the existing site that contributes to the economic development of Downtown
