Skanska awarded $61 million contract to build new green high school

Skanska has secured an assignment to construct an intermediate and high school facility. The contract amount totals $61 million. The customer is the New York City School Construction Authority (SCA).
The assignment comprises an approximately 172,000 s/f school at South Hunter's Point. The five-story building will house teaching facilities for 1,000 intermediate and high school students. In addition to 26 classrooms, the building will also offer laboratories, a music suite, gym, kitchen and cafeteria, as well as a 4,736 s/f roof terrace.
The project will be designed to meet Silver LEED certification, in accordance with the LEED international environmental certification system.
Skanska USA Building will be responsible for implemtation of the project. Work commenced in November and will be completed in October 2013.
