Emily Youssouf joins NYU Schack Institute

According to The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate, former president of the New York City Housing Development Corp. (HDC) Emily Youssouf, one of the industry's leading experts on CRE investment and development, has joined the NYU Schack faculty as a clinical associate professor. Youssouf will begin her first fall term at NYU Schack by teaching courses on real estate finance and affordable housing. "Few if any individuals can match Emily Youssouf's professional background and deep knowledge of the finance and real estate industries,"said NYU Schack Institute divisional dean James Stuckey. "Her arrival at NYU Schack is fantastic news for our students, who will benefit tremendously from Emily's critical thinking and analysis of both the public and private sector real estate capital markets." Youssouf was appointed president of HDC by mayor Michael Bloomberg in November 2003. She served as president of the HDC until 2007. Youssouf has an extensive investment banking background in housing finance, loan securitization, and structuring innovative financing strategies. Under her direction, HDC became the number one issuer of multi-family affordable housing bonds in the country in 2004 and 2005. Prior to joining HDC, Youssouf served as the president of Natlis Settlements, LLC, a specialty finance company. Youssouf also has held various senior positions over a 20-year period at Credit Suisse First Boston, Prudential Securities and Merrill Lynch. Youssouf began her financial services career at Standard & Poor's where she was vice Ppresident of the Tax-Exempt Housing Finance Group. She is an honors graduate of Wagner College and holds an M.A. in Urban Affairs and Policy Analysis from the New School. The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate (www.scps.nyu.edu/schack) was founded in 1967, at the initiative of prominent real estate leaders who encouraged NYU to establish an academic center that provided an educational foundation for professionals within their industry.
