According to BFC Partners, they have signed a lease with the Goris Family to open an upscale, eco-friendly supermarket in Toren's premium 11,000 s/f, ground floor retail space. This will be one of the very first supermarkets of its kind to open along the Flatbush Ave. Corridor, addressing a major need for the thousands of new residents preparing to call the neighborhood home over the next several months.
"We're very happy to have found a tenant for Toren's retail space who will bring a greatly needed service to the entire neighborhood," said Donald Capoccia a partner with Joseph Ferrara and Brandon Baron at BFC Partners. "With a dedicated amount of space geared towards fresh foods and produce, the grocery store will be eco-friendly and compliant with NYC's green market zoning program, making it a great fit for an environmentally conscious, LEED certified building like Toren. It will be a great shopping destination for residents throughout Downtown Brooklyn."
The grocery store will be the flagship store for a high-end brand, yet to be named. In addition to fresh foods and produce, the store will offer prepared foods and catering, a sushi bar, cooking classes and an Internet-based delivery system. It will also feature outdoor, café style seating.
"We are very excited to launch this new brand of supermarket and to open its first location at Toren," said Mark Goris, of the Goris Family, a company that has opened and operated more than 20 supermarkets across the metropolitan area over the past 30 years. "The space offers us an incredible windowed storefront along a highly trafficked corridor, close to multiple modes of public transportation, in a booming residential neighborhood."
Located at 150 Myrtle Ave., on the ground floor of the 240-unit Toren, the grocery store is expected to open in the fall of 2010. The brand is being developed by the Goris family, and Co-Op Branding, the same team who developed the stand-out branding for Toren. The interior design and planning for the market is being done by Deborah English.
Toren's iconic architecture has re-defined the Brooklyn skyline—the tower visible from the air, water, bridges and roads. On the forefront of green urban developments, Toren offers a new angle on modern living.
