What was your greatest professional accomplishment in 2010?
I was excited to be a part of the management team at Cassidy Turley as we launched the new brand this year. As a shareholder and part of the team, I enjoyed watching the company grow and prosper this year.
What was your most notable project, deal or transaction of 2010?
The most notable project this year was the Kellwood transaction which was the culmination of three years of work with a publicly traded company which went private and subsequently downsized. A great deal of time, effort and negotiation went into this deal and it was thrilling to see it come together.
How do you contribute to the company and/or the industry?
I'm proud to be a shareholder at Cassidy Turley as well as a team leader as we are constantly looking to attract new talent and grow the firm. I am a former chairman of the Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association and remain an active member. I also serve on the REBNY's Commercial Board of Directors, CoreNet New York and the Women Executives in Real Estate.
What advice would you give to women just starting out in commercial real estate?
My first piece of advice would be to develop relationships with other women in the industry; my experience has shown that women love to help other women in their careers. Secondly, there are many opportunities to add value to existing teams that do not have a woman on that team. Pick a team where you have a chance to add your unique perspective.
How do you manage the work/life balance?
Managing a work/life balance is always a challenge which is why I consistently set aside personal time each week and always prioritize my calendar so I have time for life outside work.
Who has been the strongest influence on your career and why?
I have been influenced by many people throughout my career. The strongest influence in my career was being named the 3rd woman to serve as chair of the YM/WREA which was an extremely rewarding experience.
What impact has social networking had on your success?
Social networking has helped me find people I lost touch with over the years. It also makes communication in the field easier and more productive.
