A cocktail hour preceded the awards ceremony, which was attended by over 1,000 industry executives and supporters. Medaglia, who has been enthusiastic about the Boy Scouts' work for many years, showed grace on the podium as she announced each awardee and then introduced several outstanding Boy Scouts, who received recognition for their work in the past year. "The luncheon is fantastic. It's very upbeat, and it represents wonderful values for kids, especially urban boys and girls who benefit from the positive role models and constructive activities of scouting programs."
This year's honorees included: Jay Badame, chief operating officer, Tishman Construction Company; Steven Alessio, president and chief executive officer, The Sweet Construction Group; Robert Donaldson, president, Donaldson Interiors, Inc.; Porie Saikia-Eapen AIA, FCIOB (UK), vice president, area manager, CH2M Hill New York; and Christopher Erikson, business manager Local Union No. 3, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
Roger Gulley, development director of the New York Council, was delighted with the luncheon, which raised over $600,000 for scouting programs in New York City. "We serve over 109,000 boys and girls in the scouting community," he explained. "The Good Scouts luncheon was a super success despite this economy because of the volunteer committees - the chairpeople, honorees and co-chairs at every level. We are indebted to them for their loyalty and dedication to our work."
Medaglia agrees. "The construction community is out in full force for the Boys Scouts," she said. "It's just a very positive group that does a wonderful job."
