James Famularo, Meridian Retail Leasing

Name: James Famularo

Title: President

Company Name: Meridian Retail Leasing

What was the most challenging part of working during the pandemic?
We always remained optimistic that New York City would turn around quickly as it always has in the past. Finding people as optimistic as we were about this was one of the most challenging parts of working during the pandemic.

What was your most notable project, deal, or transaction in 2020?
Closing a 14,000 s/f restaurant at 105 MacDougal St. and being recognized by CoStar for this lease with the “Most Ingenious Deal Award.”

What are your predictions for commercial real estate in 2021?
I think there will be a rush to open new restaurants throughout the city because so many have recently closed.

What aspects of working from home did you enjoy most?
None—we knew from day one that working from home would not be sustainable. Our team works best when we work together and are able to be out in the field. We expect most businesses feel the same way, which is why we anticipate the commercial office market will come back in mid-to-late 2021.

What was your greatest professional accomplishment in 2020?
Being able to continue expanding our team during this difficult time. We were hiring and training new staff while many other companies were letting employees go throughout the pandemic.
