Horst Design International creates new store design totaling 1,500 s/f
By the time you reach 50, you might be ready for a complete makeover. At least that's what Isaac Sagman, president of Suzette Hosiery and his partner Linda Sagman, (co-owner) wanted to do for the 50th anniversary of their intimate apparel boutique located in the Cross County Shopping Center. Opening its doors in 1958, Suzette's is the oldest continuing tenant in, what was the first outdoor mall in the U.S. This year, the mall is also undergoing a major renovation that will include new retailers, landscaping and a playground.
Expanding from its original small 400 s/f store to a new 1,500 s/f facility, shoppers will be delighted to see the visual image transformation - created by Horst Design International (HDI), an architectural design firm based in Cold Spring Harbor, L.I. "Our goal was to create a warm, inviting, 'sexy' interior environment with the added comfort that women look for when getting their personal bra fittings as well as shopping for lingerie and other intimate apparel," said Doug Horst, president, HDI.
To appeal to the youthful clientele, the owners wanted a contemporary, feminine image. "With a high fashion color scheme, classic materials and finishes, we appeal to customers who find shopping a fun experience," said Linda.
Using a combination of hot pink for the fixtures with burgundy for the carpeting, the merchandise is appropriately highlighted. "While we found this color scheme to be an unconventional choice, it really works," said Linda. Dark woods are placed throughout the store for a richness and sense of elegance. Incorporating a soft  level of fluorescent & other lighting sources, it is bright enough to see the products yet does not have a harsh glare.Â
In addition, the owners wanted to generate intrigue on the 25' facade with its 11' tall windows that would capture passersby and motivate them to step inside. To achieve this look, HDI used a white window frame with large colorful canopies. Frosted Acrylic panels, cabling and pink accents are part of an eye-catching window display. A new logo set in mosaic tiles is incorporated along the entrance. Additionally the storefront is adorned with burgundy awnings / white piping & details, large signage and a white Carrara marble facade.
From floor to ceiling, there is a major difference between the original store and the new facility.
