Who is willing to get into the boxing ring for charity? Not most people but Hallmark Abstract Service LLC president and CEO Michael Haltman, and Douglas Elliman Real Estate agent Keith Dawson will be investing their personal time and energy this summer as they take their generosity to the extreme - stepping into the boxing ring to "fight for charity" at the 10th Long Island Fight for Charity on November 25. Haltman and Dawson were recently named among the 21 business people who will go head-to-head in the boxing ring to support three charitable causes: Long Island Community Chest, Family Residences and Essential Enterprises (FREE), and The Genesis School.
As part of their long-term commitment for this unique event, which has raised more than $700,000 and attracted more than 150 "boxers" spanning a variety of professional work industries, Haltman and Dawson must each raise a minimum of $5,000. They will rigorously train well in excess of 150 hours. Haltman's routine will entail both heavy bags and speed bags, weight training, abdominal work, sparring, running, biking, jumping rope and tennis while Dawson's will involve running, heavy bags, sparring, mitt work and calisthenics.
No strangers to investing in charitable causes, Haltman and Dawson are regularly involved in community outreach and support initiatives. Haltman is the founder of the New York City and Long Island Chapters of the Restless Leg Syndrome Foundation and has participated in various event fundraisers benefitting the Canine Companions for Independence and its Purple Heart Pups. A former amateur boxer who has competed in the NYC Golden Gloves, Empire State Games, and Metropolitan Championships, Dawson is a coach with the not-for-profit Atlantic-Veterans Memorial Boxing Club and has raised funds while also walking in the Autism Speaks Walk at Jones Beach.
