Kings Park, NY Prospect Sports Partners’ DestiNationKP, located in Kings Park, is soon to be the home of the largest privately owned mixed-use sports and medical facility in the tri-state area. With critical assistance from the Suffolk IDA, the $70-plus million project will transform 44.5 acres of land at 350 Old Northport Rd. into a state-of-the-art regional tourist and recreational destination.
The sports complex will hold seven outdoor playing fields, two outdoor practice fields, an over 60,000 s/f indoor sports complex, and a 5,000 s/f concession building. The complex will host large-scale sporting events, camps and tournaments, creating more than 100 permanent new jobs and attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors per year, generating additional tax revenue. At the same time, the project enhances the region’s quality of life by providing increased access to recreational opportunities and saving many Long Islanders from having to travel out of state for regional sports tournaments.
“This project has been a long time in the making and we are excited by the momentum the IDA action provides us in creating this regional sports and tourism destination,” said Kenny Henderson, member of Prospect Sports Partners. “The goal of this complex with its multi-use design is to target the youth sports tourism travel market and look to bring sporting and corporate events so visitors can experience everything Long Island has to offer like our beautiful beaches and championship golf courses. We’re grateful for the IDA’s assistance and guidance in helping us produce opportunities for children and their families within the tri-state region that will bolster the host community and those that surround it.”
The project also features a 50,000 s/f sports medical facility supported by the Suffolk County IDA. Suffolk IDA authorized property tax abatements, mortgage tax exemptions, and sales tax exemptions to support the project. The more than $22.5 million investment will be leased to a tenant specializing in providing medical care, rehabilitation services and other sports-related uses to become a sports medical hub and regional tourism destination. Moreover, the complex also received a significant amount of support from the Suffolk County Economic Development Corporation through $52 million in nontaxable bonds and $17.5 million in taxable bonds.
“This groundbreaking project aims to provide our local youth, especially those encountering socioeconomic obstacles, with access to organized sports opportunities that were once unavailable to them,” said Kelly Murphy, executive director of the Suffolk IDA. “The Suffolk IDA is proud to support this project that fulfills a significant need for our children and families, while providing high-quality job opportunities, as well as substantial revenue generation for local businesses and taxing jurisdictions.”
