Danielson of Parsons Brinckerhoff elected to AIA College of Fellows

Scott Danielson, a vice president and technical director of architecture at Parsons Brinckerhoff, was elevated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) during the 2014 AIA national convention. Danielson has been a practicing architect for 50 years, 39 of which have been with Parsons Brinckerhoff. He has contributed to more than 800 projects or studies worldwide, including transit stations, bridges, airport facilities, highway tunnels, and research facilities. Among his most notable projects are the Kanchanaphisek Bridge in Bangkok, Thailand (2007), for which he served as lead architect; the Jiantan ("Dragon Boat") Station (1997) of the Taipei rapid transit system, for which he served as principal design architect; and the Glenwood Canyon Tunnels (1992) on I-70 in Colorado, for which he served as principal tunnel architect. More recent projects to which Danielson has contributed his architectural expertise include the Presidio Parkway in San Francisco; the new Kosciuszko Bridge in New York City; and a bus transit center in Sparks, Nevada. Through his designs, Danielson has applied unusual architectural solutions and has demonstrated a special sensitivity to the movement of people, whether on foot or in vehicles; the regional character of building design; and the historical/urban setting of structures. "Scott Danielson transforms civil structures into civic sculptures through his designs for transportation infrastructure that improves circulation and the experience of travel, while expressing communities' cultural and aesthetic values and respecting their environment," said Marsha Kaiser, Parsons Brinckerhoff's national U.S. manager for PlaceMaking Services. Danielson received M.A. and B.A. degrees in architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.A. in art from Stanford University. The FAIA Fellowship program was developed to elevate architects who have made a significant contribution to architecture and society and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession. Election to Fellowship not only recognizes the achievements of architects as individuals, but also their significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level.

Most people think of St. Patrick’s Day as a fun footnote on the calendar. In construction logistics, however, it’s a full-scale operational variable — especially if your work touches major metro areas with major parades and, let’s call it what it is, enthusiastic celebrants.
