aptsandlofts.com markets 19-unit condominium in Ridgewood

A 25,000 s/f vacant building at 852 Cypress Ave. in Ridgewood, Queens was the blank slate for this project. Originally the offices and printing plant for The Ridgewood Times, the neighborhood newspaper, it was built of solid concrete and steel in 1923. In the middle of mostly two-story, two-family homes and a solidly working class neighborhood, the developers of The Times Building are hoping to spark a renaissance in Ridgewood by highlighting the convenience, charm, and relative obscurity. The marketing campaign for The Times Building, which is aptsandlofts.com's third project in Queens, plays on the history of the building. Noah Smith, one of the principals of N.S. Construction, saw the original plain white brick facade and imagined a castle; he subsequently replaced the facade with concrete stucco and a crenellated roof-top. "In today's condominium market developers must offer the 'big three' - a product that is well built, offers value to the buyer and is unique," said David Maundrell, president of aptsandlofts.com. The 19 apartments in The Times Building range from a 550 s/f studio with a sleeping loft to seven approximately 1,150 s/f one bedroom duplexes with private roof decks. The strongest physical link to the past is the building's lobby.
