2022 Year in Review: Amanda Kaminsky, Lendlease

Amanda Kaminsky
Director, Sustainable Const. - Americas
Lendlease

What person, project, transaction or market trend had the greatest impact on your industry this year? The federal Inflation Reduction Act and New York’s Local Law 97 incentivize greenhouse gas emission reductions. Policy is one reason why we are considering a geothermal closed loop ground source heat pump system for 1 Java to derive renewable thermal energy from the earth in lieu of fossil fuels.

How has your career path changed in 2022? I joined Lendlease this year, bringing my experience working with progressive developers piloting construction materials and logistics improvements. At Lendlease, I get to build on that industry improvement at scale, in procurement across many diverse projects, collaborating with strong teams, and tackling electrification toward our 2040 absolute zero carbon target.

What emerging trends will drive investment and development in 2023? Beyond equipment efficiency and renewably powered electrification, our affordable housing projects are increasingly building to Passive House standards to reduce energy loads. We will also see more suppliers and builders collaborating to decrease embodied carbon, such as at Claremont Hall, where we reduced the embodied carbon by 31%.
