What has been the most rewarding project or deal you’ve worked on in your career, and why?

In 29 years, we’ve worked on many rewarding projects. Recently, our work has included six amazing commercial-to-residential conversions for Vanbarton Group. Starting with the groundbreaking 180 Water St. conversion in 2014, we have developed unique expertise in negotiating and coordinating large numbers of contracts with a wide range of trades for these projects. We have since worked on 160 Water St. and 990 Sixth Ave. are working on the conversions of 77 Water St., 1011 First Ave., and 6 East 43rd St. It is exciting to be part of this important transformation in the city.

What skill or quality do you believe is essential for success in your field today?

Focus and attention to detail. With those qualities, you can identify the best ways to effectuate a positive result for the long and short term. Another important skill is listening! For lawyers, careful and respectful listening to another attorney’s position can help you understand the underlying concerns of the other party. It enables you to address the issue by crafting language and negotiating terms that all parties are happy with, which is the foundation of good long-term relationships for our clients.

What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in commercial real estate?

Go for it! CRE is an ever-evolving landscape with a wide range of opportunities. You’ll work with many smart, interesting, and highly creative types who are passionate about their work. The work is fast-paced and fun, and rarely dull.
