Brooklyn, NY SG Blocks, Inc. has been selected by Elle Woodworking, an architectural design and fabrication group of commercial and residential projects, to design and construct a container-based seasonal cocktail bar. SG Blocks is supplying four of its GreenSteel products, the structural core and shell of an SG Blocks building, that will bring BlackTail to the promenade space on Pier A during the spring and summer of this year. Delivery is expected in the second quarter and the cocktail bar will be open by Memorial Day. Pier A Harbor House is a 28,000 s/f, multi-experiential food and beverage destination located at 22 Battery Place.
“We have seen substantial demand from the food and beverage industry for our GreenSteel product,” said Paul Galvin, chairman and CEO of SG Blocks. “Our solution is ideal for both temporary facilities, such as BlackTail, to companies looking to create new permanent locations. Our time to market is exceptionally fast and we are excited to bring the beloved BlackTail cocktail bar outdoors for the warmer months of 2018.”
“The container project for Blacktail will bring the award-winning cocktail bar to the promenade space outside the pier for the spring/summer season,” said Marc Vecchiarelli, founder and president of Elle Woodworking.
BlackTail’s story began with a flight – the cocktail bar owes its name to Aeromarine Airways, an airline that flew to Havana regularly. Being one of the newer bars to open at Battery Park City, BlackTail boasts a Cuban-theme and celebrates the daredevil aeronauts back in the days. It also commemorates the Prohibition Era with mixed drinks (five categories, eight original drinks per category) from the 1920s through to the 1950s by creating cocktails with modern day twists and interpretations of the classic recipes.
SG Blocks has worked with many companies in the food and beverage space. Clients have included major corporations such as Taco Bell and Starbucks, as well as midsized favorites such as Bareburger. The firm has also worked with small businesses across the country – building Smoky Park Supper Club in Asheville as well as supply the containers for Coney Smorgasburg at Coney Art Walls.
SG Blocks utilizes code-engineered cargo shipping containers to construct and provide safe, durable and environmentally-friendly structures. Its exclusive ESR number, granted by the International Code Council (ICC) and held by no other container construction company, ensures its ability to meet and exceed all international building codes.
