Albany, NY Congressman Paul Tonko celebrated the formal opening of his new office on Tuesday August 22nd by holding an open house at 19 Dove St.
Congressman Tonko is from New York’s 20th congressional district, a post he has held since 2009. The district, numbered as the 21st for his first two terms, is located in the capital district and includes the capital, Schenectady and parts of Rensselaer, Montgomery and Saratoga counties. Tonko previously represented the 105th district in the New York Assembly from 1983 to 2007.
19 Dove makes a statement among Downtown office buildings. Originally the Harmanus Bleeker Library as part of the Albany Public Library, this 1923 Classical Revival building designed by architect Albert Fuller was one of the first buildings built in the city to serve as a library. 80 years later, the building was restored and renovated into class A office space, creating a class of its own for historic architecture and commercial office space.
Congressman Tonko serves on the energy and commerce committee, the oldest standing committee in the House created in December 1795. He is the first Upstate New York Democratic member to serve on the committee since Leo O’Brien, who resigned the post in October 1966. As a member of the science, space and technology committee, he also serves on the subcommittee on research and technology, which has jurisdiction over non-defense federal scientific research and development.
