Jones Lang LaSalle has announced that Edward Riguardi, managing director, with the company's New York office was selected by the Real Estate Board of New York to receive The Bernard H. Mendik Lifetime Leadership in Real Estate Award.
REBNY will present the award to Riguardi at its Annual Banquet on January 17, 2008, at the New York Hilton. The organization bestows the honor each year to a REBNY member who has demonstrated a lifetime of exceptional accomplishment in the profession and provided invaluable contributions to New York's leadership in real estate. Riguardi is an active member of REBNY's Board of Governors and executive committee, overseeing its management division.
"It is a great honor to have my name appear alongside Bernard Mendik's," said Riguardi. "He was leading figure in the Manhattan office sector for many years. New York is one of the most challenging cities in the world for real estate professionals. Through REBNY's efforts, we are working to help the city's real estate market evolve to meet the needs of a contemporary world."
With more than 40 years of experience in the New York commercial real estate industry, Riguardi has been called the "Dean of Property Management in New York." He joined Jones Lang LaSalle in 2002 and is responsible for senior oversight of its management portfolio in the New York region.
Prior to joining Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), Riguardi served as chairman of Colliers ABR. Earlier, he was president and one of the founders of Koeppel Tener Riguardi, where he created its property management group and managed the expansion of its brokerage, consulting and appraisal businesses. He began his career in real estate at Williams Real Estate. Riguardi worked with the company for 29 years, rising from a position with its operations and engineering department to serving as one of its three senior executive vice presidents. He was also a member of, and worked closely with, Williams Real Estate's six-person executive committee.
Riguardi has acted as a consultant for major institutions such as Exxon, American Express, Bank of New York, Citibank, Equitable Life, Merrill Lynch and John Hancock, coordinating asset management strategies for their real estate portfolios.
Riguardi is chairman of the Realty Advisory Board and a member of its Executive Committee and Board of Directors. For the past 15 years, he has served as chairman or co-chairman of the RAB's Labor Negotiating Team, which represents building owners in the real estate industry in labor negotiations.
Riguardi has also served on various committees critiquing the real estate industry's response to the events of Sept. 11, 2001, and the blackout on Aug. 14, 2003. He is a past president of the Building Owners and Managers Association. Riguardi was also a chairman of REBNY's Local Law #5 Committee and served as its liaison to New York commissions on issues that include asbestos, construction and the Americans with Disabilities Act. He has been a member of the real estate committees established by three prior New York mayors. Riguardi has also served on the Mayor's Committee on the Commission of School Facilities, the Committee on Maintenance Reform, and The New York City Building Code Review.
