Uniondale, NY National manufacturer Crystal Window & Door Systems has begun supplying new energy efficient replacement windows for the well-known Long Island Marriott.  The window replacement project’s first phase calls for the installation of 2,700 aluminum windows in two guest room wings of the 11-story contemporary design hotel. The window replacement project is part of a planned $25 million, 2 to 3-year renovation which also includes the hotel lobby, bar and other interior areas.

Located at 101 James Doolittle Blvd., the hotel lies adjacent to the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum arena, former home to the New York Islanders hockey team and venue for many music concerts and major entertainment events over the years.  With 618 guest rooms, the hotel is one of the largest on Long Island.

Crystal assisted the hotel’s design and construction team throughout the process.  “Prior to being awarded the window contract, Crystal sales and engineering staffs worked closely with the project construction managers, fenestration contractor, hotel owners and Marriott corporate officials to value engineer the window replacement project,” said Robert Dorsky, Crystal’s Long Island sales manager.  “Crystal also supplied full size mockups, arranged field testing and provided a complete set of very detailed shop drawings.”

Crystal Windows began production and shipping windows for the renovation project in November 2016.  Window production will continue over the next few months and is expected to be completed in the spring.  The Long Island Marriott is the latest in Crystal’s long list of major hotel renovation and new construction projects.

Additionally, Crystal has supplied notable national chains such as Hyatt, Hilton, Sheraton, Wyndham and Holiday Inn.

Crystal is supplying the Long Island Marriott Hotel project with 2,731 aluminum Series 8500 casement and Series 8510 fixed picture windows.  The windows will be horizontally ganged together in combinations from 2 to 6 to fill 267 building openings.  The Series 8500 optional continuous master frame system or 3-piece mullions are used to combine the individual windows.

The Crystal Series 8500 is a 2-?” frame depth outswing aluminum casement window with a 1” insulated glass unit (IGU).  The window features a heavy-duty 0.125” wall thickness extrusion profile and has achieved an outstanding AAMA rating of AW-PG 100.  The Crystal Series 8510 fixed picture window features a similar a 2-?” frame depth, 1” IGU, 0.125” wall thickness extrusions and an outstanding AW-PG 85 AAMA rating.  All the Crystal windows for the project are finished using durable AAMA 2604 powder coat bronze color paint.

For enhanced thermal efficiency, all the insulated glass units are argon gas filled and use PPG Solarban 60 low-E coated glass.  For additional strength, ¼” thick heat-strengthened glass is used for the IGUs.  Limit stop opening devices are specified for the operating casement windows for guest safety, and to facilitate safe and secure installation, aluminum receptor systems and subsills as well as interior clips and snap trim accessories are used.

The fenestration installation contractor is Action Storefronts of West Islip.  The construction manager for the work is Axis Construction Corporation of Hauppauge, NY and building envelope consulting services for the project are provided by Gilsanz Murray Steficek (GMS) Engineers & Architects of New York City.  The property is owned by 101 Uniondale, LLP and The Witkoff Group, LLC and is part of the Marriott national hotel chain.
