As we prepare for the Annual Leadership Breakfast – where we will confirm the incoming board of directors for BOMA New York – I look back at the association that has helped shape my career and look forward to many more years of innovation, education and collaboration with our growing membership.

I’ve been a BOMA member since 1991 and chair/CEO of BOMA New York for the past year. I know firsthand that membership has its privileges.  I’ve benefited by furthering my professional education via informative BOMA NY programs and multiple BOMI Courses. Furthermore, many properties that I’ve managed throughout my career have also benefited from programs such as BOMA360 and achieving success at the Pinnacle Awards, the esteemed industry honor that recognizes quality in properties and rewards excellence in building management.

At 52-years strong, BOMA New York is at its best, representing approximately 400 million s/f of office space, including some of the world’s most prestigious properties. If you are already a member of BOMA New York, I encourage you to maximize your membership in the coming year.  If you’re considering joining BOMA New York, I look forward to welcoming you to the association. The following are my top five reasons to renew or become a BOMA New York member today.

1. Inclusive – There are multiple ways to become a BOMA New York member. Our goal is to continue to serve our existing membership and grow membership from other CRE sectors, while providing value to the entire industry. The larger we grow, the more we will learn from one another – with plans to expand into residential, healthcare, industrial and college facilities.

2. Education – BOMA New York was recently featured by BOMI International as the most active educational association within the United States.  Our Green & Wellness programs are a phenomenal resource for new designations and recertifications.  Our BOMI curriculum is robust, with plans to further mature in 2020   Lastly, our signature Lunch & Learn monthly program regularly sells out, with media coverage featured in the NYREJ.

3. Advocacy – BOMA New York regularly advocates on behalf of the commercial real estate industry, actively collaborating with multiple departments within the Mayor’s Office. Current issues include climate control, carbon emissions, energy conservation, water bills and waste management. We’ve been effective on all fronts and always look for members to be a part of the collaboration with the public sector.

4. Networking – Whether the program is educational or social, every event is well attended by the industry’s most seasoned executives and emerging leaders. Mentors are found and lifelong relationships are formed at BOMA New York events.

5. Innovation – Our members set the bar for best practices.  BOMA New York has multiple committees to join as the biggest city in the world pushes the commercial real estate  industry forward.

Please follow my footsteps and join the association that will help shape your career and position your properties for success. Learn more at bomany.org.
