June 23, 2015 - Spotlights

Amy Lawrence, Denham Wolf Real Estate Services, Inc.

Name: Amy Lawrence
Title: Senior Manager, Transaction Services
Company Name: Denham Wolf Real Estate Services, Inc.
What year did you start your career in commercial real estate: 2007
What recent project or transaction are you most proud of?
Last month we held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Screen Actors Guild Foundation's (SAGF) new screening room on West 54th St. The negotiation of the long-term lease with Boston Properties was the culmination of a five-year strategic planning and brokerage project to create SAGF's New York City Actors Center. I love this project because of its many facets. I was able to help take an idea thorough its conceptual and strategic development and make it a reality. Now Denham Wolf is continuing as project manager, running the design and construction process through to the ribbon cutting. I am looking forward to being there on opening night!
Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why?
My father. He is the best salesperson I know.
What is the first thing you do when you arrive in the office in the morning?
By the time I reach the office I've already had a busy day that includes getting the kids up and ready for school, responding to emails, and making phone calls. When I arrive I have my coffee and review and prioritize my list of objectives for the day.
What time management strategies do you find to be the most effective for you?
By nature I procrastinate and then compensate by working really hard under pressure. While stress is a motivator for me, it's certainly not the best way to work all the time. I've learned to start projects early and schedule and prioritize my time.
What is the best advice you have received and who was it from?
Always be true to yourself. My mother.
List 3 women that you would like to have drinks / dinner with and where would you go?
Katherine Hepburn, Maya Angelou, and Ina Garten. Naturally we'd go to Ina's house, but I'd make the sangria.
What is your favorite quote? "We may encounter many defeats, but we must not be defeated."
What did you want to be when you grew up?
An actress. I studied acting at arts high-school and at the American Academy. The insight I gained through that study has been invaluable in numerous aspects of my work life now, such as understanding people and presenting to an audience.
