A milestone in the construction of 50 United Nations Plaza, New York City's newest landmark, was reached recently. A topping out ceremony was held at the new luxury condominium, located at the corner of First Ave. and East 46th St., across from the United Nations headquarters. 50 United Nations Plaza is being developed by Zeckendorf Development, LLC with Eyal Ofer's Global Holdings, Inc.
"As this new architectural residential landmark designed by Foster + Partners moves forward, we are excited to see great interest from potential buyers who view New York City as the world's premier destination in which to live and work," said Arthur Zeckendorf, co-chairman of Zeckendorf Dev.
The ceremony celebrated the completion of the concrete structure of the development. The project came out of the ground in November 2012 and includes 88 units, as well as 4,000 s/f of commercial space at its base. Residences will range in size from one-bedroom apartments up to 1,147 s/f, two bedrooms from 1,132 s/f to more than 2,600 s/f, three bedrooms from 2,600 s/f, and full-floor homes of 6,000 s/f, as well as a spectacular two-floor penthouse with close to 10,000 s/f. The penthouse also includes a terrace and outdoor swimming pool. Ceiling heights for all residences range from 10 feet up to 13 feet.
"We are pleased to join Zeckendorf Development in creating another premier New York residential condominium. Facing a building of world significance, 50 United Nations Plaza will attract considerable interest from buyers who recognize this rare opportunity in New York City to own a home created by one of today's great architects," said Eyal Ofer, chairman of Global Holdings.
This is the first residential building in the U.S. designed by world renowned architects Foster + Ptrs. The exterior of 50 United Nations Plaza is characterized by deep bay windows, which accentuate the magnificent views and broaden the elegant living spaces within. The windows are unified by a delicate horizontal grid of stainless steel tubes that wrap around the building. The tower's jewel-like quality is further enhanced by highly reflective panels, which run vertically between each of the faceted bays.
"50 United Nations Plaza will undoubtedly be a landmark new luxury residential destination. The location is unrivaled with its iconic views and historic presence across from the UN Headquarters," said William Lie Zeckendorf, co-chairman.
A private motor court and garden leads to a discreet lobby, and a residents-only garage with 88 parking spaces - one for each residence. The lobby has 16-foot ceilings, a fireplace, full-height marble waterfall, and is also wrapped in glass walls, providing a view of the perimeter gardens and motor court.
"We are proud to be the construction manager for this extraordinary new residential building and grateful to the thousands of dedicated construction workers from all of the New York building trades that have helped us reach this milestone," said Ralph Esposito, executive general manager of Lend Lease.
