Taylor, a leading regional general contractor in Rochester, was awarded the contract for construction of the SUNY Oswego Rice Creek Field Station in August of 2012. Taylor is teaming up with architect Cannon Design, out of Grand Island, NY, and Watts Architecture and Engineering, out of Buffalo, for design and construction of the new 7,640 s/f biological field station at 193 Thompson Rd. Construction work is still underway, with a project completion date slated for June.
"Taylor is proud to team-up with the State University Construction Fund on another exciting and beneficial project, for both the Oswego community and the University as a whole," said Taylor president, Karl Schuler. "The targeted LEED Gold certification for this project further instills our commitment to promote environmentally responsible, healthy, and profitable places to live, work, and learn."
The new 7,640 s/f building will use energy efficient construction to obtain the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification rating of Gold from the U.S. Green Building Council. The project also calls for building a new astronomical observatory next to the main building, rebuilding a pavilion and maintenance garage, and adding new signs to Rice Creek's 400 acres of trails.
Rice Creek Field Station is owned and operated by Oswego State University, which primarily serves as a study and research site for students in various sciences, such as ecology and biology. The large building will provide faculty with more room for classes and research with the addition of an artifacts room, full research lab, classrooms, lecture space, and library.
Taylor is a second-generation general contractor with 40 years of experience in the design and construction of office, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. Having completed hundreds of projects, Taylor has the resources to deliver enhanced execution on all phases of projects from the ground up.
The project team included:
* General Contractor: TAYLOR The Builders
* Architect: Cannon Design Architects
* HVAC: TAG Mechanical Systems
* Plumbing: J&A Mechanical Contractors
* Structural Steel: Rochester Rigging and Erectors
* Electrical: O'Connell Electric Co.
