Bloomberg presents at Cathedral Club of Brooklyn's 113th Anniversary Dinner; Honored Walsh of Avision Young during February 12th event

According to Avison Young, Edward Walsh, principal and managing director of the firm's project management services division, was honored on February 12th by The Cathedral Club of Brooklyn during its 113th Anniversary Dinner at the New York Marriott Marquis. The Cathedral Club of Brooklyn is a Catholic lay organization founded in the Diocese of Brooklyn in 1900. The organization's mission is to advance Catholic interests, to promote the moral improvement of its members, to foster among them a true Catholic spirit, and to unite them more closely in the pursuance of these ends. The club has a series of events and activities to fulfill its mission, with the annual dinner being the highlight of its social calendar. This year's event included remarks from mayor Michael Bloomberg, as well as featured speaker colonel Michael Gould, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Readiness. Notable past honorees of The Cathedral Club's Anniversary Dinner include the honorable Mario Cuomo (governor of New York from 1983 to 1994) and the honorable Edward Koch (mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989), as well as Avison Young principal and tri-state president Arthur Mirante, II. The annual event has also attracted such prominent past featured speakers as U.S. Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. Proceeds from the event are used toward a donation made to the Bishop of Brooklyn for his favorite charity. "Ed's strong commitment to serving others is evident in both his business approach as well as his active participation in numerous charitable endeavors," said Martin Cottingham, principal at Avison Young, who serves as an officer for The Cathedral Club and is one of the chairmen for the organization's dinner committee. "This well-deserved honor is a reflection of his tremendous dedication to giving back to the community." "I am humbled to be recognized by The Cathedral Club of Brooklyn," said Walsh. "For more than 100 years, the organization has made significant contributions to help improve the lives of its members and the entire Diocese of Brooklyn, and I am very proud to be honored by an organization that is so committed to its mission." Prior to joining Avison Young in 2012, Walsh was the founder and president of The Walsh Co., a multi-service advisory organization specializing in client representation and project management services. He founded the firm in 2003 and subsequently forged its growth into one of the industry's most successful project management firms with more than 50 employees in four offices throughout the Northeast. Before founding The Walsh Company, Walsh worked for more than 10 years as a Senior Vice-President at Gale & Wentworth, a diversified real estate investment and services firm. He began his career with Boswell Engineering and also previously held positions with Bomar Builders. In addition to his career achievements, Walsh is actively involved in helping raise funds for several nonprofit organizations and has been recognized for his philanthropic efforts on behalf of the American Cancer Society, Somerset Hills Learning Institute, Interfaith Food Pantry of Morristown and Family Service of Morris County. He was appointed to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's Environmental Protection Transition Subcommittee in 2009 and is currently Chairman of the Board for the School Development Authority (SDA).
