Dedication ceremony held for Angelo A. Costana Community Ctr.

The new Community Center at Fernwood Park, 65 Waring Rd., held a dedication ceremony on November 6. The Community Center, is named in honor of Angelo Costanza, former chairman of the board of Rochester Management, Inc. and Rochester Civic Housing, the sponsor of the redevelopment of Fernwood Park. Costanza, a long-time city leader, former chair of Central Trust Bank, served as the chair of Rochester Management, Inc. and Rochester Civic Housing from 1981 to 2002. During his tenure as board chair, Rochester Management sponsored Lifetimes at Plymouth Gardens, an adult Day Care Center, in conjunction with the Fairport Baptist Home and St. Mary's Hospital, and embarked upon major improvements at Seneca Towers and the Rochester Civic Housing "Veterans" projects among other things. The new Community Center at Fernwood Park is part of the $26 million renovation of the Rochester Civic Housing properties, Fernwood Park, Ramona Park and Norton Village, built as part of the "Rochester Plan," between 1946 and 1949 to house returning World War II Veterans. The properties are undergoing renovation and modernization. The 2,300 s/f Angelo A. Costanza Community Center at Fernwood Park will provide community space for resident celebrations and community gatherings. The project management office is also located within the community center. Fernwood Park is a 152-unit project, the first of the "Rochester Plan" projects to be completed in 1947. The current renovation includes new roofs, windows, furnaces, electrical service to each apartment, full kitchen and bath remodeling, new playgrounds, and landscaping. All of the apartments consist two bedrooms.
